Crease-safe wallpapers for the iPhone Duo
Where the fold sits, how much room to leave, and how to compose around it.
Where the fold is
The iPhone Duo opens like a book: about 164.6 mm wide and 117.8 mm tall when open, and 84.1 mm wide when closed (Apple's figures). The hinge therefore runs vertically through the middle of the open 2670×1878 inner display. If you compose in the listed 1878×2670 orientation, the fold is a horizontal band through the middle of the 2670-pixel side.
How much room to leave
Apple doesn't document a crease or safe area. The figure below is our conservative estimate, not an official specification.
We keep important detail out of the central 6% of the long side: about 160 px, from pixel 1255 to pixel 1415 on the 2670-pixel edge. The generator draws this zone as a red overlay (it is not included in the export).
Composition tips
- Put the subject on one side, or split it deliberately into two halves, one on each panel, so the fold never cuts a face or a logo.
- Keep thin lines away from the center: horizon lines, text and grid patterns look broken if they straddle the fold.
- Prefer smooth gradients, soft textures or deliberate negative space across the middle. This is a design judgment on our part: a calm or slightly darker middle strip draws less attention than a bright flat area.
- Mind the lock screen. Clock and widgets sit in fixed places, so check the overlay with your image positioned for them.
- Make matching sets by cutting the cover version from the same artwork. See the size guide.
FAQ
Does the iPhone Duo have a visible crease?
Apple's tech specs don't describe the crease or give a safe area. Book-style foldables generally show some distortion along the fold line, so we recommend keeping important detail out of a central strip.
How wide should the safe zone be?
We use 6% of the long side — about 160 px on the 2670-pixel edge. This is our own conservative estimate, not an Apple figure, and it will be revised if Apple or hands-on testing says otherwise.
Does the cover display need a safe zone?
No. The cover display is a normal single screen with no fold.
